Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are some of the most versatile, effective treatments available on the market today. People of all ages and skin types can find a peel that targets their primary skincare issues in a few sessions, often needing just one treatment to produce visible results. Chemical peels are effective, relatively gentle, and can be applied in just a few minutes, making them perfect for a lunch break treatment or a quick pick-me-up. So, what exactly are chemical peels, and why are they so popular?

A chemical peel is a minimally invasive procedure. Here in Orlando, our days are full of sunshine and outdoor activities, and while these are good for the soul, they can be harsh on your skin. Sun exposure, acne, and simple aging can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. A chemical peel is one of the most cost-effective and powerful ways to improve the appearance of your skin. The potential result of the chemical peel depends on the type of chemical and technique used.

Chemical peels can improve:

  • Acne or acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Irregular skin pigmentation
  • Rough skin and scaly patches
  • Certain scars
  • Sun-damaged skin

What a chemical peel can’t do:

  • Treat deep facial lines or wrinkles
  • Significantly tighten loose or sagging skin
  • Remove deep scars

Who can benefit from this treatment?

Chemical peels are as varied as the people who get them. There is a chemical peel for just about everyone, regardless of skin type or age. Your esthetician will perform a comprehensive consultation before your treatment so you can customize your treatment and ensure you don’t have any contraindications.

How it works:

Chemical peels work in phases. When you arrive at the treatment room, your skin will be prepared and the chemical solution will be carefully applied to the area. You may experience some burning during this phase, but most treatments have numbing and/or cooling agents to help keep you comfortable.

After you leave, the chemical peel works its magic. It’s called a “chemical peel” because it sloughs off the outer layers of your skin, creating a peeling effect; however, not all treatments cause visible peeling. Your esthetician will supply you with the proper at-home aftercare so you can get the most from your chemical peel treatment. Don’t forget to apply SPF regularly!

Once the peeling process is complete, you’ll be left with fresh, glowing skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles, more even skin tone, and a glowing, fresh complexion.

What to expect:

  • After a chemical peel your skin may be red, tight, irritated or swollen. Follow your esthetician’s directions for sun protection, cleansing, moisturizing and applying protective ointments to your skin.
  • It is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, – If the skin feels tight, moisturize as needed throughout the day.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately seven days.
  • It may take several weeks before your skin color returns to normal and you can see the full results of the peel, depending on the formula.
